Damn, it's not very often I write a journal entry - Mostly because I have nothing to say - But, right now is an exception!

It's summer where I live, and we're stuck in a MASSIVE heat wave! For those of you who've never experienced Australia during it's summer time, consider yourselves lucky! It's hot, sticky and dry (very dry!) I'm pretty much refusing to leave my house because when I do, the sun just loves burning me... I'm still recovering from the sunburns I got during the Australian open (cause no freak heat wave can keep me from my tennis! )

Yesterday they said was the "hottest February day on record". I think it reached almost 50 degrees celcius (For you yanks, that approximately 125 degrees fahrenheit) But, it's not just the heat - Ooh nooo... Australian heat is different than most of the world! It's thick, heavy, absloutely scorching to feel on your skin and there is virtually no moisture in the air! In other words: it's suffocating! Don't believe me?! It's so hot outside that the possums are falling out of the trees and dying (sadly, I'm not joking!)

Anywayz, I can see AND smell the smoke in the air and the radio is warning for people in my area to pack up and leave their homes. They threaten that every year, but the fires never quite reach me! But, it's scary close! About 30-40 people died yesterday in fires, and the news said there's 8 major fires that are threatening to the whole state - Along with several little fires as well! I've been near fires before, and I KNOW the first thing I'm taking with me is my dog - Cause there is no way in HELL I'm leaving her behind!!! Still, I really hope it doesn't come to that!

On a more concerning note, one of my best friends has been training to become a fire man, but considering the severity of the fires right now, they've sent him out there to fight! I haven't heard from him for a few day, and I'm trying my hardest not to worry (but it's hard not to!)... I just really hope he's okay!

And, for you fellow Aussies, I hope you're better off than I am! *sigh*
